If you are using Sophos UTM 9, you need a valid license file to activate and use its features. A license file is a text file that contains information about your subscriptions, support level, and expiration date. You can obtain a license file from the MyUTM Portal after purchasing a Sophos UTM product or activating a trial license.
In this article, we will show you how to install a Sophos UTM 9 license file on your appliance using WebAdmin, the web-based interface for managing Sophos UTM.
Step 1: Download the License File
To download the license file, you need to log in to the MyUTM Portal with your credentials. If you do not have an account yet, you can create one for free. Once you are logged in, go to the License Management page and enter the activation key that you received by email after purchasing or activating your Sophos UTM product. The activation key is a long string of letters and numbers that looks like this: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.
After entering the activation key, you will see a form where you need to fill in some details about yourself and the reseller you purchased the product from. You also need to enter the serial number of your Sophos UTM appliance if you are using a hardware device. The serial number is a sticker on the back or bottom of the appliance that starts with \"S\". If you are using a virtual or software appliance, you can leave this field blank.
After submitting the form, your license will be created and you will be redirected to the license detail page. Here you can download the license file to your computer by clicking on the Download button. The license file has a .txt extension and a name like \"license_XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.txt\". Save it to a location where you can easily find it later.
Step 2: Upload the License File
To upload the license file, you need to log in to WebAdmin with your credentials. The default address for WebAdmin is https://:4444, where is the IP address of your Sophos UTM device. You can also use a hostname or a domain name if you have configured one.
Once you are logged in, go to Management > Licensing > Installation and click on the Browse button. Locate the license file that you downloaded in step 1 and select it. Then click on Upload License File. WebAdmin will process the license file and activate any subscriptions and settings that it contains. You will see a confirmation message when the upload is successful.
Note: The activation key that you received by email cannot be imported into WebAdmin. This key is only used to activate the license on the MyUTM Portal. Only the license file can be imported to Sophos UTM.
Step 3: Verify Your License Status
To verify that your license file has been installed correctly and that your subscriptions are active, go to Management > Licensing > Overview. Here you can see an overview of your base license and any additional subscriptions that you have purchased or activated. You can also see the expiration date of each subscription and whether it is renewable or not.
If everything looks correct, congratulations! You have successfully installed a Sophos UTM 9 license file on your appliance. You can now enjoy all the features and benefits of Sophos UTM according to your license level.
